Seasons Greetings Edition

Seasons Greetings!

I want to wish each and everyone of you a very Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, Las Posadas, Diwali or Chinese New Year (and any other celebration I may have missed). Regardless of what you celebrate, I am sure we can all agree on celebrating the Winter Break. Beginning this afternoon, we all have the opportunity to recharge our batteries. Spending time with our families and friends helps remind us of what is most important to each of us. This allows us to return in the New Year with a renewed energy to serve the students and families of Millville.

So far this year has held many milestones and accomplishments. Throughout each of our schools the staff and students are exploring their curiosity of the world around them. From arts to mathematics, athletics, to poetry or literature – there is something for everyone. Through the strategic plan we have committed to providing our students with paths to career and/or college readiness. Our expanded STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) programs are uniquely designed for those careers that rely heavily on technology and math. These days, there are very few if any professions that do not. Our Fine and Performing Arts students continue to shine.

It goes without saying that Millville Athletics are very healthy as well. One aspect often left out is the character of our students. We believe that part of our responsibility as educators is to help our young people become good people as well as employable. The ability to be kind, caring, and empathetic are just a few of the many qualities we value here in MPSD. Teamwork is also critically important so that our students can work in diverse groups in order to solve real world issues. All of this is possible because of each and everyone of you (Millville Staff). Thank you for all you do for our students, each other, and this community. I look forward to coming back together in 2019 to finish out this School Year. Until then, enjoy your break!!!

Hello all,

Hope everyone is having an outstanding week! The first snowfall reminds us that we are fast approaching the Holiday Season. I hope you are further along in the process than my wife and I, as we just got our Christmas Tree last night. We still need to decorate and finish shopping (or start shopping is more accurate).

This time of year is my favorite. There is something about the magic of the Holiday Season, especially when I look at it through my daughter’s eyes. At 9 years old her excitement for the arrival of Santa Claus is visible. She is literally starting to bounce up and down whenever we talk about Christmas. My son, now 13, is also looking forward to Christmas but in true teenager fashion. You know, ‘whatever – I guess Christmas is pretty cool’. I love the opportunity to get together with extended family and friends. We get to make memories and celebrate together with those we are often too busy to see during the year.

This is going to be an emotional Holiday for us this year. My wife’s grandfather – referred to as ‘Dad, grampy, great-grampy’ by countless children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren passed away last night. We got the call sometime after 10:30pm. For us, while the Holiday will still be enjoyable, it will have a small hole in it where he should be. We have many amazing memories and pictures to remind us of how much we all loved him. With that in mind, we are going to make sure we spend time appreciating all that are still with us. We will try not to let the stress and pressures take away from the true meaning of the Holiday Season. Put all our distractions aside and turn off the SmartPhones and truly connect with others. So my hope for all of you is that you too have time to spend with your loved ones, that you cherish the time together, and that you make lasting memories.

12/1/18

Cathie Salvati donated 250 to the Lakeside Cafeteria to help pay off balances
The Phenomenal Friday is dedicated to acknowledging the contributions of the Millville Public School Employees.

Shout-Outs:

"I would like to thank Debbie Markel and Kathleen Pedrick, two of our RtI teachers at Bacon Elementary, for their dedication to their work.  These two adapted to a new schedule with one teacher short for the first three months of the school year.  They did this with a can do attitude and made a situation that seemed impossible work.  They ran from class to class to ensure all of our students that were in need received services.  Thank you both."
~Pat Wulk, Supervisor

"The HS AVID students visited Arcadia University for a campus tour on Thursday, November 15th. The unexpected mid-day snowy weather made for a challenging ride back to Millville. I was so thankful to have Derek Clarke as a chaperone with me as we managed to keep everyone calm and safe on the 6 hour ride home (it was only supposed to be 1.5 hours!) Derek kept the atmosphere light, kids happy, and even flexed his superpowers to get us out of a jam! Thank you so much, Derek! YOU ROCK!"
~Kim Hallenbeck, AVID

"Thank you Mr. Dan Bertonazzi, for coming to the rescue of a Mt. Pleasant student in serious need of someone to talk to. Mr. Bertonazzi was at Mt. Pleasant for another purpose and happened to walk into this situation. He made a big impact and was able to get this student back on track. Thank you Dan, you saved the day!"
~Arlene Jenkins, Principal

"A special shout out to Harry Drew!  Harry continues to go above and beyond the call of duty to Make sure that students get to school.  It is not uncommon for him to pick up and drop off students regularly just to ensure that they arrive on time."
~Pamm Moore, Asst. Superintendent

"A shout out to Colleen Blithe for assisting with the nurses for the field trips. I would also like to give a shout out to Joyce Wozunk and Amanda McEwen for assisting with the field trip plans as well. Thank you!"
~Vanessa Strassner, Supervisor

"A shout out to Margaret Keefer, Donna Terry, Valerie Phillips, April Pang and all of the other staff that helped to put on a great Dessert Theater production."

~Spike Cook, Principal

"Thank you, Beth Pirnik and Linda Penka for your assistance with ASE testing. Your help is definitely appreciated!"
~Bridget Borlak, Dept. Chair

"A big shout out and thank you to Amy Scull (who organized), Paul Lokey, Kim Berry, and Candy Devich for making sure over 20 families in need got a Thanksgiving meal last week.  Donations were collected, contacts were made, and you all saw it through.  I know some of this happened on your own time using your own money.  I’m grateful to work with selfless, caring people such as yourselves.  Awesome job!
~Mike Coyle, Principal

"A BIG shout  out to Bonnie Martinez Goetz for all of the technological support she is giving the staff at CFC.  Her ticket response is amazing and she anticipates problems before they occur and finds solutions.  She is a wealth of knowledge and shares it willingly with our staff."
~JoAnn Burns, Principal

"I'd like to send a big shout out to Cindy Fullerton, a 1st grade teacher at Mount Pleasant. Cindy has worked extremely hard over the last few weeks to get her class back on pace with the other 1st grade classes after getting a little behind out of the gate due to some unforeseen issues at the start of the year. She has worked with her colleagues and put in extra time planning her lessons to consolidate and catch up. We all have things come up that upset the flow of our work, and Cindy has done an amazing job to make up for lost time and make sure her students don't fall behind their classmates. Great job, Cindy!"
~Bobby Barber, Supervisor

"The Child Study Team Elementary and Secondary Testing Teams often work behind the scenes in conference rooms and offices, but these teams do amazing work assisting teachers, school administration, students, and their families.  Thank you for your dedication and patience with the tremendous workload that goes into each CST referral.  Shout Out to Diane Carpenter, Denni Foster, Dan Bertonazzi, Tamyra Fernandes, Nicola Tasoff, and Terri Traci."
